Description

We are Vedere Bio II, a company focused on providing true vision restoration to patients, many of whom are literally in the dark today. Currently incubated at Atlas Venture, which is also one of the Company’s investors, Vedere seeks to become THE leading gene therapy vision restoration company. Working with us, you will have the opportunity to bring the light to patients, by delivering transformative genotype-agnostic therapies for vision restoration.

We are looking for a strategic and tactical experienced leader to lead our finance function and be a member of our management team. In particular, we are looking for an individual who wants to apply their experience across all dimensions of finance – corporate finance, financing strategy, financial planning and analysis, accounting, investor relations – in three dimensions:

  • Lead all finance and accounting responsibilities at Vedere Bio II as we transition from a private, Series A funded startup to a public, well-capitalized biotech in the next 2-3 years
  • Apply that technical and leadership experience into oversight of other G&A functions, such as information technology and facilities
  • Collaborate with the other members of the company’s leadership team as we develop and advance the company’s strategy, with an aim to restore vision to blind patients around the world

This person will have three primary functional areas of responsibility:

  • They will own our company’s finance function, which includes
    • Frequent coordination with all functional areas and program teams to ensure that all inputs are accurate and properly categorized
    • Aggregation of the inputs to formulate a long-range plan and annual budget with a reasonable number of alternatives that align with our corporate strategy and goals
    • Working closely with the CEO and COO to develop a financing strategy that is consistent with that long range plan
    • Clear and concise communication to our leadership team, Board of Directors and shareholders about all of the above, which includes a recommended base plan and associated strategy with reasonable optionality
  • They will oversee the accounting and tax functions at the company, which includes
    • Leading all aspects of our annual audit process
    • Leading the audit- and tax-related discussions with our Audit Committee
    • Devising and executing on any tax strategies to optimize our tax profile
  • They will be primarily responsible for the IT and facilities functions, which includes our upcoming transition out of LabCentral and Atlas’s incubator office to our own facilities

Likewise, this person has three crowning personality characteristics.

  • They will collaborate with all constituents to rapidly create intrinsic value for the respective programs and the company
  • They will challenge their team to meet aggressive but achievable program timelines and budgets by thinking creatively and continuously integrating inputs from reputable sources
  • They will take risks that are well thought-out and appropriately identified, communicated, vetted and made actionable.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 10 years of finance or accounting experience in life sciences, at least half of which were in some aspect of corporate finance or financial planning and analysis
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA preferred.
  • Experience with both public and private companies preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills for building and managing relationships, for bridging between scientific and business participants, for negotiating timelines and for effectively collaborating across all parts of the business
  • Outstanding project management skills, including expertise in designing, developing, and managing schedules and resource management
  • Skilled in identifying potential and actual risks and establishing mitigation strategies

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability.

Vedere is developing cutting-edge gene therapy products to restore functional vision to patients who have suffered vision loss from Inherited Retinal Degenerations (IRDs), as well as other causes of both genetic and non-genetic vision loss.
