You will report directly to the COO to support our partnered hospitals by mentoring hospital leaders, evaluating clinical processes, optimizing Medical Director (MD) and veterinarian performance and production, providing insight to streamline clinical operations, uphold medical quality standards and address hospital clinical concerns. The role partners with the Operations Advisor (OA) of each assigned hospital to ensure a balanced representation of medical quality and financial considerations.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a high performing clinical team across hospitals: recruit as needed and develop a team of clinical leaders through strategic, collaborative approach to Medical Director competency assessment, as well as determine capability growth, team growth, and development opportunities for veterinarians and Medical Directors.
  • Train Medical Directors to assess and develop veterinarians to deliver exceptional medical care at the highest quality and drive consistent productivity.
  • Create, implement, deliver, and follow key clinical KPIs for veterinarian focus areas and career development opportunities.
  • Lead with clinical excellence, both wellness and sick care. Develop clinical teams that deliver remarkable, high value, personalized and precise care powered by advanced data, clinical innovation, and psychological safety.
  • Follow up with and hold veterinarians accountable for follow through on development programs as warranted.
  • Contribute to the administration and delivery of early career veterinary rounds, early career ER veterinary rounds, Learning & Development webinar series, and other UVC run virtual educational offerings as needed.
  • Set training plan for Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and Customer Service Associates and ensure delivery through the Medical Director and Operations Advisors.
  • Develop regional growth strategy incorporating price opportunities and volume growth levers such as clinical productivity, service mix, additional veterinarians, appointment efficiency, etc. Partner with Operations to incorporate regional growth strategy into Operational strategies to achieve financial objectives.
  • Develop veterinarian performance and production strategies for region to achieve revenue growth budget and hold MDs and veterinarians accountable to performance and production plans.
  • Assist Medical Directors and Practice Managers in optimizing utilization of relief veterinarians.
  • Oversee and implement Medical Director Employment Agreements and compensation considerations.
  • Ensure financial health and regulatory compliance of each hospital by continually partnering with Operations Advisor to monitor the clinical productivity of the teams, service mix, and access to care within regulations governing veterinary care delivery. Implement changes when required.
  • Oversee and make medical equipment decisions, development of ROI plans, procurement, and approvals.
  • Attend team doctor meetings as needed and train Medical Directors on how to lead effective team meetings and huddles.
  • Be available to doctors to discuss concerns, ideas, and career goals.
  • Streamline inventory and lead doctor teams with inventory strategy process to consistently provide patient care.
  • Build trusted relationships across hospital leader team. Measure and promote veterinarian engagement and connection to UVC.
  • Leverage support staff to drive productivity across hospital teams; train Medical Directors and veterinarians on how to best utilize skilled staff for improved patient outcomes and clinical team efficiency.
  • Promote and support an entrepreneurial growth mindset in Medical Directors about growing the hospital.
  • Identify and develop organic clinical growth strategies across hospitals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required.
  • Five years practicing in small animal veterinary medicine with hospital leadership required.
  • Five+ years of multi-site Veterinary leadership experience required, 10+ preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop strong and supportive working relationships with a wide variety of people and backgrounds including clinicians, cross-functional leadership and senior management.
  • Superior problem-solving skills and a proven ability to influence change.
  • Deep knowledge of budgeting, business development, and strategic planning.
  • Deep understanding of finance in the context of veterinary industry and hospital operations including P&L, pricing, contract negotiations, revenues and payroll.
  • Obtain license in all active states and be capable of practicing 2-4 days per month alongside hospital teams.
  • Live in the South Atlantic Region of the US with access to our Southern East Coast Hospitals.
  • Travel 50% of the time.

Compensation:
  • 190k to 200k + production opportunities + performance bonus opportunities + equity
